As The Grove at Trelago sets to open and serve the Maitland community, the facility’s new Executive Director is ready for big things at the area’s newest senior living community.
“The Grove at Trelago has always captured my attention,” said Gus Astorga. Astorga says he lives near the community and “my wife said one day to me, ‘you know, you should apply to this community,’” he explained.
He did, and the result was an excellent one for the healthcare field veteran.

The new role marks another feather in his cap in the healthcare and hospitality industry.
Astorga said he got involved in the healthcare field in 2012 while living in Texas. In 2014, he became the executive director for an Atria Senior Living independent community.
In 2015, he and his family moved to the Orlando area where he assumed the Executive Director position for another Atria community offering assisted living and memory care lifestyles.
Toward the later part of his tenure with Atria, Astorga held a regional role overseeing Atria communities throughout Florida. When the position at The Grove at Trelago became available in late 2020, he jumped at it, he said.
“Needless to say, there’s a lot of enthusiasm. Obviously [we] see it as a great community, great location, and obviously, something that Maitland, something people are looking forward to have here in Maitland,” Astorga said. “My goal is to make this community the best possible.”
To do that, Astorga said Starling, the parent company of The Grove at Trelago, has sought the highest quality and most-skilled workforce.
“The desire as a leader for me is creating a working environment where people look forward to coming to work. The type of leader I feel I am is someone who really gets to know the staff and understanding how I can make their job more fruitful,” he explained.
He said the top notch staff will make residents at The Grove at Trelago feel welcomed and at home.
“The Grove at Trelago will be a place to reckon with,” he said. “The staff, the amenities, the spaciousness of the apartments, and the many venues we’ll have available will certainly be a great point of difference when you compare us to the competitors around us.”
Comfort is key at The Grove at Trelago, and Astorga said that will shine through each and every day - and residents will feel it. So will their families.
“When families realize the warmth in this place, the smile from the moment they step foot in the building, and the smile they receive when it is time for them to depart, I think that is very important,” he said.
